Athens, 1 August 2014
The Center for Security Studies (KEMEA), in collaboration with the Crime Scene Investigation Division of the Hellenic Police, proceeded to the signature of public procurement contracts in the frame of the implementation of co-funded projects by the programme “Prevention of and fight against Crime – ISEC” of the Directorate-General “Home Affairs” of the European Commission.
The procurement involves the acquisition of highly specialised laboratory equipment for the DNA analysis division as well as the ballistics analysis division of the Hellenic Police.
These projects, after evaluation of the relevant proposals submitted by the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) as “coordinator” comprise of:
- • The project “Enhancing the operational capacity of the Hellenic Police to implement the PRUM Decision” with a total budget of €644.779,51 which started on the 6th of August 2012 and will be concluded on the 5th of May 2015 (Award Letter Ref. Ares(2012)552018 of 04.05.2012) with the Crime Scene Investigation Division of the Hellenic Police as “co-beneficiary”.
- • The project “Advancing the ballistic laboratory data of firearms capability of the CSI Division of Hellenic Police” with a total budget of €332.038,80 which started on the 1th of January 2013 and will be concluded on the 31rd of December 2014 (Award Letter Ref. Ares (2012)1085253 of 19.09.2012) with the European and Development Programmes Division of the Hellenic Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection as “co-beneficiary”.
The activities foreseen by the projects will help interconnect the Forensic Science Division of the Hellenic Police with respective agencies of other EU countries through the transfer of know-how and common training activities. Additionally, in order to disseminate the projects’ activities and capitalise on its outcomes, international high level workshops will be organized with the participation of political and institutional figures, police officers and expert scientists from around Europe.
In the signing of the procurement contracts participated:

• The Director of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Hellenic Police, Police Brigadier General Ploumis Emmanouil.
• The Director of the laboratory for the Analysis of Biological Material of Persons of the National Record of Genetic Types division, Police Brigadier General Miniati Penelope.
• The CEO of the company «SafeBlood BioAnalytica Ltd» Mr. Gomatos Ilias.
• The CEO of the company «Analytical Devices Ltd» Mr. Bartsokas Nikolaos.
• The members of the teams responsible for the implementation of the projects “Enhancing the operational capacity of the Hellenic Police to implement the PRUM Decision” and “Advancing the ballistic laboratory data of firearms capability of the CSI Division of Hellenic Police”.
