Press Release EUSTO – 2nd European Workshop entitled “Forum 2: Best practices for Surface Transport Protection”

Athens, 1 June 2015

On Friday, May 29, 2015, the 2nd European Workshop entitled “Forum 2: Best practices for Surface Transport Protection” in Bologna, Italy, within the European Surface Transport Operators Forum – EUSTO project, funded under “Prevention, Preparedness and Consequence Management of Terrorism and other Security-related risks (CIPS 2013)” call of the EU DG HOME AFFAIRS.

The workshop was organized by SRM (Public transport operator in Bologna, Italy) and KEMEA (Project coordinator, National Contact Point for Critical Infrastructure Protection, Greece), attended also by the rest of the consortium, EUC (University of Cyprus ), Fraunhofer (Research Organization for Transportation and Infrastructure, Germany) and ADITESS (SME, Cyprus).

In this Workshop, Surface Transport Operators, International and European Organizations, Transport Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection Experts and Consultants, have participated, as listed below:

During the workshop practices, gaps and hot issues related to the implementation of the European Directive 1114/2008 and national strategies relating to the security of critical infrastructures of surface transport were presented and discussed. The current situation of some of the European countries participated has also been presented, whereas information, requirements, comments and needs have been gathered, which will be used for the foresight platform design and development, within the project lifecycle.

The next scheduled event is the 3rd EUSTO Workshop, “Forum 3: Operational requirements for STP”, which will be held in Nicosia on 4 December 2015. The workshop will include representatives of EU National Contact Points for Critical Infrastructure Protection, Surface Transport Operators and International Associations, in order to discuss for new approaches and procedures that will enhance the European Surface Transport Networks.
