Athens, 17 September 2014<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014, the Center for Security for Security Studies (KEMEA)<\/strong> hosted the Kick off Meeting of EUSTO (European Surface Transport Operators) Project which is funded within the framework of the call for proposal of “Prevention, Preparedness and Consequence Management of Terrorism and other Security-related risks (CIPS 2013)” of EU DG HOME AFFAIRS.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The driving force behind EUSTO initiative is the need for promoting sustainable cooperation between the actors involved in the protection of surface transportation infrastructures, in order to provide means for the identification of emerging threats on a European level.<\/p>\n

More specifically, EUSTO will be founded on four (4) European wide Forums, with the active participation of several Surface Transport CI Operators and Owners, as well as Security Authorities representatives.<\/strong> The Forums may be also attended by selected Guest Speakers from USA and Canada, in order to transfer their experience and practices with their EU colleagues.<\/p>\n

KEMEA is the Coordinator<\/strong> of EUSTO Project, which consists of 4 more beneficiaries, with significant experience in security, risk and surface transport fields:
• SRM (Public Transport Authority, Italy)
• European University of Cyprus (Academic Institute, Cyprus)
• Fraunhofer (Research Institute on Transport and Infrastructure Systems, Germany)
• ADITESS (Highly innovative SME, Cyprus)<\/p>\n

Furthermore, a significant number of Associated partners have ensured their participation in the Project:
• UITP – International Association of Public Transport
• EOS – European Organization for Security
• Attikes Diadromes – Greek Motorway Operator
• Swedish Transport Administration – NCP
• Spanish National Center for CI Protection – NCP
• POLIS -European Organisation for Innovative Transport solutions
• TPER – Public Transport Organisation
• Bolognia Airport – Critical Infrastructure<\/p>\n

The next planned event for EUSTO project is the first EUSTO Workshop “Forum 1: Ongoing activities for the implementation of Directive 114\/2008 in Surface Transport Protection”<\/strong>, which will be hosted by KEMEA in Athens, Greece, on December 9 & 10, 2014<\/strong> and will try to pin-point existing gaps in the Directive and its implementation, identify emerging and persisting threats to the surface transport networks, and propose possible improvements to EU policies and directives.<\/p>\n
