Athens, 2 December 2014<\/p>\n

The “European Symposium on Border Surveillance and Search & Rescue Operations Technology – BSSAR 2014” which was organized by the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA), in Heraklion, Crete, on November 27th and 28th, 2014, has been successfully concluded.<\/p>\n

At the Symposium participated one hundred and fifty (150) representatives from international organizations, national authorities and services, academic institutions, research agencies, and end-users in both the public and private sectors, originating from fifteen (15) member states of the EU.<\/p>\n

During the event, there had been presented the results of ten (10) European Research Projects (FP7) and two (2) National Research Programs on border surveillance technology, ground and air survey, crisis management and search and rescue operations, in the majority of which KEMEA participates.<\/p>\n

The President of the BoD of KEMEA, Professor Michael J. Tsinisizelis while addressing the opening session emphasized the use of modern innovative technologies to manage operational needs such as security in the Mediterranean Sea, the greek borders\u0384s management and the combating of illegal migration.<\/p>\n

Lieutenant General Ilias Georgopoulos, Southern Greece Police General Inspector, Commodore Ioannis Pavlopoulos, Hellenic Navy Commandant of NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center (NMIOTC), and Vincenzo Rinaldi, Project Officer of European Synergies and Innovation \/ European Defense Agency (EDA), welcomed the participants during the opening session. George Vourekas, Head of Sea Border Sector \/ FRONTEX Agency, delivered the keynote speech.<\/p>\n

Products, modules, and software dealing with Border Surveillance and SAR Operations had been displayed and demonstrated outdoors during the event.<\/p>\n
